  • That's pretty much as good as it gets. You can try the suggested values as shown next to each option, but I would simply leave as is.

    • Memory differences

can anyone tell me the differences (if any) between the F2-8500CL5D-4GBPK and the F2-8500CL5D-4GBPI-B . I have the latter, and am wondering if these settings posted here will help stability or if I should be looking elsewhere for settings that will work.

      • Same settings, but the PI-B will be slightly faster. =)

        • order 4 more gigs

          Hi! I just ordered 2x2gig more. I have the ga-ep45-ud3r rev1.1
I have been running my 4 gigs at 960mhz with 4-5-4-14 timings with no problems.
Was wondering when the other 2 sticks come, If it is still neccasary to set the mch core to 1.4v and the tRFC to 80 for 8 gigs if I am not going to be running them at 1066mhz ??

          • MCH Core may not need to be that high.. and tRFC can be lower as well. Just test to see what is stable.

            Thank you

              • can't run at 1066, only 800

I have had an insane time trying to upgrade to a new processor in my PC. here's the basic deets of the original, working-perfectly-fine rig:

                Mobo: ep45-ud3p (1.6 rev)
                Proc: pentium D 945 (200mhz FSB x 17, for 3.4ghtz total)
                RAM: 8GB: 4x2GB (2 sets of G-Skill F2-8500CL5D-4GBPK)
                Video: PNY nVidia GT7600

I ran default/auto for all BIOS settings & voltages, across the board, and had no problems (except that the "Auto" setting for System Memory Multiplier was choosing 4.00C, and running at 800mhz - probably because the FSB was too low for any better. this comes up later).

The new proc is an Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 Wolfdale (333mhz x 9, for 3.0ghtz total per core), and my first move was to simply drop it right in, but that was a total fail - the mobo would emit 38 beeps, pause, and repeat.

Stupidly, I RMA'd the first proc, thinking it was bad. 2nd one though did the same thing, so after paying a shop to test the 2nd proc in another board of their own choosing (it was fine), it was clear (along with some insistence from a smart guy on a another forum) that it was probably an issue with the mobo settings.

I am pleased, somewhat, to say I've nailed it down to this: the "Auto" setting for System Memory Multiplier. It was choosing 3.20B, to run the RAM at 1066mhz (based on my new proc's FSB of 333mhz) - and I'd love that, but it fails, as described above.

To get forward with things, I tried various combos of RAM in all the slots, and got a post by putting a single memory chip in slot 2 of this board. At that point, since I could now get into the BIOS, I tried upping the voltages (DRAM => 2.1v, MCH => 1.4v, MCH/DRAM Ref => 1.0v, timing to 5-5-5-15, command rate to 2, upped the tFRC to 80), but couldn't get a stable post - 70% fail.

It was then that I noticed that the system was trying to run my RAM at 1066, and I decided to override that (setting it at 2.40B) to get it down to 800mhz, which is where I'd been successfully running for a long time. I saved, rebooted successfully, then dropped in the 3 other 2GB ram chips, rebooted, and all went swimmingly form that point on - Win7 loaded perfectly and did its thing, and.. yes. Finally the new proc works.

So here's my question: why is my board failing so hard when it tries to run this RAM at 1066mhz? any suggestions for achieving 1066? thanks in advance, and here's my BIOS:

                • Think MCH core should be 1.2, may be a to high at 1.4, will take a closer look when I get back, prob be a couple hours or so, and may want to disable the XMP and do it manually

Pls offer comments on support I provide, HERE, in order to help me do a better job here:

                  • you might want to check out this thread at http://www.overclock.net: "Overclocking.net > Intel > Intel Motherboards>Gigabyte EP45-UD3 Series Owners Guide" the guys there have been dealing with our mb and the gskill ram for quite a while and know how to tweak it right, seriously. they got me headed in the right direction w/ my setup, I'm sure someone there can do the same in your case. BUT, since you've posted your "M.I.T." you may have been there already? if not, post that w/ the situation you're in. they're real helpful... gl.
i'd give you my settings but my cpu is a qx9650, so they wouldn't apply well on yours.

                    • Those settings are spot on for 8GB @ DDR2-1066...

Have you tested each module or kit to confirm they are error free? Do you have the latest BIOS?

                      Thank you

                      • New Bios Same old problem

I have been running this board and memory for over a year, tweeking the settings, testing the modules, flashing the bios and generally banging my head against the wall. Long story short: this memory will not run at 1066 mhz on this board. Every time I see a new post to this thread, the hope begins anew and I stupidly start trying the latest "fix" only to crash my system and start again.

Here's what works for me and it doesn't suck: timing 4,4,4,12. Overclock the processor to 3.2 and set the multiplier to 2 B. This sets the sticks to 800mhz and it will run stable. Good Luck

                        • Very weird, this motherboard and memory should not have a problem at all. But if you are having such a problem, try to overclock the memory to DDR2-900, with the 4-4-4-12 timings and this would be much faster already.

                          Thank you

That took me a while to test but it squeezes the most performance out of the RAM that I could. Running a 1:1 ratio on Intel chipsets seems to bring out a ton of performance. You'll see that I ended up running the RAM at 980MHz with 5-5-4-12 timings with only 1.9v not bad at all :P

Here's a hint: "Driving Strength ............................OC-1200" this one really helped.

                              • Wayne,

If you think there is a problem with one module, input the basic DDR2-1066 5-5-5-15 2.10V then test each module one at a time to see if one performs differently.

                                Thank you
