you'll have to set AI Overclocking to "Manual" and set the DRAM Timing Mode to "Manual," then you could 4-4-4-12 in BIOS

    Hi Michael,

would you please be so kind to write how you've set up the timings for 4-4-4-12 in Ai Tweaker on P5Q - I've no idea what to do with 2nd and 3rd information fields and couldn't find anything on the net?

    Cheers,
    Dean

    Resolved

    Hi,

Putting the RAM to 2.0V in BIOS did resolve the issue.
RAM is running fine now with 4-4-4-12 settings.
I even purchased some supplementary 2x2Gb (G.Skill identical RAM as before) and am running a stable system now with 4x2Gb of RAM.

Many thanks for your prompt and efficient assistance.

    Best regards

    Michael

    Hi,

    Thank you for your reply.

I did not make any voltage changes.
Does this need to be done in BIOS or under Windows via an OC tool ?
(May be you have a URL with a precise step-by-step description?)

    Thank you

    Michael

  • [SOLVED] CL4 running as 5-5-5-15 "only" F2-6400CL4D-4GBPK with Asus P5Q-E

    Hi,

    Here is my platform:
    Asus P5Q-E
    E8400
    GSkill C4 2x2Go DDR2 PC6400 (800 Mhz) F2-6400CL4D-4GBPK
    HD4870, Catalyst 8.8 and 8.7
    Vista Ultimate x64 SP1
BIOS is latest version found at ASUS site (flashed two weeks ago)

    Here is my "problem":
I bought this (very good looking) CL4 RAM as I expected it to have better latency.
After installation I set it in BIOS to 4-4-4-12 as specified by G.Skill on the RAM box.
Then Vista started complaining randomly about ATIKMDAG.sys which had failed and needed to be recovered by Vista. Sometimes the PC would simply reboot.
The problems occured while browsing (= little CPU activity).
So I decided to run Memtest.
Memtest-86 would show 4 errors in test 5.
Memtest86+ would report 8 errors in test 7.

Then I reset the latency in BIOS to 5-5-5-15 and ever since all of these problems have disappeared. The system is completely stable (even with Stalker running at maximum settings).

    Here are my questions:
    1. Why does my system fail when latency is set to CL4 settings (4-4-4-12) as according to G.Skill the CL4 RAM is supposed to support it?
    2. Which are the benefits for buying CL4 for this Asus P5Q-E motherboard as it needs to be set to 5-5-5-15?
    3. As I intend to add further 4 Go of G.Skill RAM do I need to buy CL4 or will I also get dual-channel capacity if I add CL5 (2x2Go) (BIOS being set to 5-5-5-15)?

Thank you in advance for your assistance which is greatly appreciated.

    Best regards

    Michael
