4gigs working fine but 6/8 not working

I have an Abit AB9Pro motherboard and Gskill 6400CLSD memory with 2gigs a stick. Previously I had an E6300 CPU and yesterday upgraded to an E6850 CPU. For some reason Windows would not load with the new CPU so I did a reformat and a fresh install of Vista 64.

When running the E6300 I had no trouble running 8gigs of memory. Now with the E6850 if I try to install more than 4gig of memory the system will not post.

did you update to the latest bios?
please try to update to the latest bios first
