With GSkill F3-17000CL9-4GBSR on a Z77 ASrock Extreme 6 mobo can I OC to 2400mhz with a i7-2600k Sandybridge or does it have to be an Ivybridge processor to get the higher memory clocks

I'd go w/ an Ivy Bridge, they have a much stronger MC. SB can go over 2133 but you're looking at high voltages and heat. If you've got the 2600K can give it a try

With SB, you are limited, you must overclock CPU host frequency.
