    Hey guys, first post here, and this is in regards to my first build! I'm hooked...
    Here's the setup:

    CPU/Processor: AMD RYZEN 7 1700
    Graphics Card: MSI Radeon RX 580 ARMOR OC 8GB 256-Bit GDDR5
    Motherboard: ASRock X370 Taichi AM4 AMD Promontory X370
    RAM/Memory: G.SKILL TridentZ RGB F4-3200C14D-16GTZRX
    Backup RAM: G.SKILL Flare X F4-3200C14D-16GFX
    Main Drive: Samsung 960 EVO Series - 250GB PCIe NVMe - M.2
    Second Drive: Samsung 850 EVO 500GB
    Third Drive: Samsung 850 EVO 500GB
    Power Supply: EVGA SuperNOVA 750 G2, 80+ GOLD 750W
    Case: Phanteks Eclipse P400S Silent Edition
    Monitor: Samsung S34E790C - 34-Inch Curved WQHD
    Keyboard: Logitech MK710
    Mouse: Logitech MX Master


    My main purpose for this build is 4K video editing, but I'm planning to ease out of the PS4 and starting using the PC.
    I spent quite some time piecing it together. A lot of that time was spent on the RAM. I understood that Ryzen was picky and I did my due diligence to ensure the RAM I selected would perform well with my 1700, so I went with the tried and true G.SKILL Flare X F4-3200C14D-16GFX. However, I came across the G.SKILL TridentZ RGB F4-3200C14D-16GTZRX listed on newegg for the same price before starting the actual build, so I purchased it. This is the article that led me to it:
    Newegg listed the following: "G.SKILL TridentZ RGB Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) 288-Pin DDR4 SDRAM DDR4 3200 (PC4 25600) AMD X370 / X399 Desktop Memory Model F4-3200C14D-16GTZRX".
    So my assumption was it would perform just as well as the Flare X for the same cost with the addition of the RGB. However, the Flare X defaults to 2400mhz, while the TridentZ only defaults at 2133mhz. I assume the default clock speed would be an indicator of how it will perform OC'd. Is this correct? As I said, I am new to this and have yet to study much on how to OC the RAM. I attempted to change a few variables (voltage, etc.) following some videos I found online to see if I could bring the TridentZ up to 3200mhz or at least better than 2133, but it didn't like anything I tried, so I opted to play it safe until I figured out really what the heck I was doing or have someone experience guide me through the process. G.Skill only lists the ASRock X399 for QVL on the website for this 16GTZRX, but I spoke with a tech on the phone who said the 16GTZRX should reach 3200mhz on my X370.
    I know this is quite a bit I have covered, but I just want to provide a thorough background so that I can achieve my desired outcome, which is to have an RGB RAM that performs at 3200mhz or better if possible. Has anyone successfully obtained 3200mhz with the F4-3200C14D-16GTZRX on a Taichi X370 board?

    No, default clock speed is what is programmed for standard boot up, it does not relate to OC.

    Do you have the latest BIOS for the motherboard?

    Did you enable XMP? With XMP enabled, lower DRAM Frequency until the system can boot properly.

    Taichi X370 can handle 3200, hopefully your CPU can.

      Okay, good to know.

      Yes, updated to the latest and greatest.

      I don't believe I enabled XMP. I will look into this.

      Do you recommend I OC the CPU before or after OCing the RAM?

        RAM first, it is easier to OC CPU later

          Agreed, that RAM kit should be good on 3.20 BIOS for the taichi, I have the same kit and have little issue getting it to boot, 1.35-1.36V is all what's needed. If this doesn't work for you, don't worry as AsRock is working on a new Pinnacle Ridge BIOS, it's currently in beta and people with b die are starting to inch beyond 3200.

          P.S. Why do you prefer the trident z over the better-tuned "backup ram" flare x kit you listed? Flare X is top notch memory for x370 platform

          EDIT, I do NOT have this particular kit, had no idea there were amd-optimized RGB trident z kits available.

            hi i have similar kit (f43200c14d-16gtzr) 2x16GB sticks dualsided (32gtzr written on product, 16gtzr written on SPD rom)
            anyway it should be samsung b-die which could clock just fine 3200+
            i can clock mine stable 3333mhz, and only timing change (for 0 errors in memtest) is to reduce tFav from 39 to 37, defaulf tfav at 39 works for me only up to 3066mhz, then it gives errors on higher clocks
