  • Will an 8320/8350 work in this?

So my sister had me build a bargain basement computer for my nephew's bday 6 months ago that involved GIGABYTE GA-78LMT-USB3 AM3+ AMD 760G USB 3.0 HDMI Micro ATX AMD Motherboard A FX-6100, and XFX HD-657X-ZDF2 Radeon HD 6570 1GB 64-bit DDR3 PCI Express 2.1 x16 HDCP Ready Video Card. It was a pretty strong upgrade for the terrible laptop he was playing on before, but now its Christmas time and I was going to buy him a processor. Can I drop a 8350 into this build and have it work? Best I could find was the board was okay with 125W tdp which is exactly what this is. I know I can't do any OC on it which is why I was considering the 8350 over the 8320. I'm also going to give him my 650-TI and upgrade myself to a 760 I think. Just want to ensure about the processor and board working together. Guessing I need to do a bios update to get the X3XX series processor to work? (sorry that was the first amd build I've done in 8 years, and I'd admittedly not nearly as up on amd hardware)

Depends on the revision of the board i suppose. While ASRock has removed support for those processors from most of their low and mid end am3+ mainboards, there were not many reports of burned mosfets on Gigabyte models. I would however still try to undervolt the cpu if possible, just to be safe.

Okay sounds like a plan. I certainly don't want to ruin his computer trying to fix it, but it is just a bit slower than what he wants right now. AMD cpu voltage still called vcore? Additionally does the 8350 use more voltage than the 8320? Meaning I should get him the 8320 instead of the 8350 to be safe? Would typically ask this question on tomshardware due to the traffic but I know the people who typically answer here are actually informed, not just some yahoo with a keyboard saying yeah go for it!
