  • [SOLVED] G.SKILL F3-12800CL7D-2GBHZ doesn't work @ 1600 MHz on Asus P5E3?

    Hello,

I will try to explain my problem in english (I'm french...).

Here is my system spec :
model of the motherboard: ASUS P5E3 deluxe wii fi
    model of the memory: [ HZ ] G.SKILL DDR3 PC 12800 CL7 2GB kit
model of the CPU: Intel E8500

what is the problem: my DDR3 kit doesn't work @ 1600 MHz .

    So, I build a 2 GB DDR3 PC 12800 kit, in order to work with a C2D E8500 @ 400 MHz FSB on a P5E3 motherboard.
When I overclock my FSB @ 400 MHz and put my DDR3 @ 1600 MHz (with recommanded 7.7.7.18 timings and 1,9 V settings), it is instable : my PC freezes, specialy in game.
I must put my DDR3 @ 1333 MHz to make it stable...
But I've bought my expensive () DDR3 PC 12800 kit to work @ 1600 MHz...
    This is really disappointing.
I tryed some BIOS configuration, but none has worked.

Do you have an idea ?
Has my memory kit a problem ?

    Best regards,
    Franck.

Please try this: increase both FSB and MCH voltage to 1.4v.
if you have any result please let us know ASAP

Thank you for this quick answer.

I think I had ever tried this settings, but to be sure, I did it again.

So, I put everything @sotck or "normal" in the bios , except :

      CPU coef : 7.5 (9.5@stock) --> to be sure the CPU is not involved (7.5*400=3 GHz ; 3.16GHz @stock)
      FSB : 400 MHz
      DDR3 : 1600 MHz
      Timings : 7.7.7.18.CR2
      DDR3 voltage : 1.9
      FSB voltage : 1.4
      NB voltage : 1.4 (=MCH I presume ?)

That's the worth settings I tried, because my PC freeze just after windows start (2-5 secondes). I can't launch any benchmark.

      Another idea ?

OK, I've maybe found the solution of my problem, by switching the memory banks.

In my motherboard paper manual, they say to plug the memory in banks A2 and B2, but on the last version of the manual downloaded on ASUS, they say to put them in banks A1 and B1.
I've done this, and it seems to work !

Windows memtest seems to be OK (130% without findind any error, but OCCT works only 55 minutes... I'll test it in game, and with DOS memtest.

If it doesn't work in game, I'll be back !

        Thanks for your help,

        Regards,
        Franck.

I confirm it works well now !

Memtest is OK for hours and OCCT to (I just increased a bit the CPU voltage).

            So, my settings are :

            CPU coef : 9.5
            FSB : 420 MHz ()
            DDR3 : 1680 MHz ()
            Timings : 7.7.7.18.CR2
            DDR3 voltage : 1.9
            FSB voltage : 1.40
            NB voltage : 1.41
            CPU voltage : 1.35
            Memory banks used : A1 and B1 (!!!)

            Thank you for your help.

                Unsolved !!!

                Hello, it's me again...

I'm affraid my problem is still unsolved...

After a short time with no freezes, they came back again, in game or not, with or without overclocking...
                [I mean "without overclocking" when my C2D 8500 is @ stock and RAM @ 1333 MHz, and "overclocking" when my C2D 8500 is @ 4 GHz and RAM @ stock (1600 MHz - 1.9 V - 7.7.7.18)]

I tested my memory with DOS memtest, and it failed.

Here is the screenshot of memtest :

The number of errors on the left row doesn't stop running, and memtest seems to be blocked here (I need to shut of my computer).

What do you think about ?

                Do I need a RMA ?
                ...

                Edit :
Oups, I found that Memtest86 3.4 is not the latest version... I'll test with Memtest86+ v2.01 tonight !
                Another question : what's the maximum voltage I can put in bios ? Can I try with 2.0 V ? More ?
Last edited by FranckDeep; 10-07-2008, 12:14 AM. Reason: Bad version of MemTest ?

we'd recommend you to test with memtest 86+ or memtest in windows
and try to test one at one time
your memtest version is a little bit old, it may not support your chipset
                  thanks

Yes, that's what I did this morning !

So, I tested with memtest86+ V2.01, and I had the same errors...

                    Look at that :

I tried both memory one by one, in every slot in the motherboard... and I get the same bad results.

I'll try to change them with my reseller.

                    I'll inform you.

                    (I tested them @ 1333 MHz - 1.9 V and AUTO - 9.9.9.24)

                      Here are some news...

I tried with another memory kit (the same GSkill F3-12800CL7D-2GBHZ kit) and I also had few errors running memtest86+ (it was better because instead of having thousands (!!!) of errors, I just had between 20 and 30 errors in one pass ).

So, I'm now trying to change this GSkill kit with another Corsair or OCZ kit (sorry...).
I'll do this at the end of the mounth (if my resseller is OK...).

In fact, I hope my motherboard is not compatible with this GSkill kit ()... but, I think that my motherboard have problems...

                      I'll inform you...

                      ...to be continued...

                        Final words

                        Hello GSKILL,

                        finally, I tried a Corsair memory (TWIN3X 2 x 1 Go DDR3 PC12800 CAS 7), and...

                        ...

                        tadaaaaammm :
                        It works !!!

No more freezes, no more BSOD, no more errors on memtest !!!

So, I conclude that GSkill memory (F3-12800CL7D-2GBHZ) is NOT compatible with P5E3 deluxe wifi .

That's amazing, did you tried this memory on this motherboard ?

So, by by Gskill , and welcome Corsair .

Thank you again for your disponibility and your help (even if nothing has worked !).

                        Kind regards,
                        Franck.

                            HI,

I have the same memory and the same motherboard, during six month my computer was doing fine. But after that it becomes to freeze, sent back the memory to ldlc and they gave me new one. But it still freeze. (I have 7 error on a simple MemTest) Why is it coming after six month ? it is kind of strange.

                            Bye,

                            Alo

Saw at NewEgg where GSkill says this is OCed RAM, uses Micron chips (that run hot), so failure could well be expected. Others have had good luck w/ OCZ and Corsair (they also sell 12GB packages of 1600 RAM so you can sort of expect them to be dependable, with most like GSkill a 6GB set is about as big as they will 'guarantee'. Might give them a go.

Pls offer comments on support I provide, HERE, in order to help me do a better job here:
