  • 24GB G.SKILL Trident+ Turbulence II DDR3 1600 on newegg

Is there any difference between the following on NEWEGG:

    Item#: N82E16820231381
    G.SKILL Trident+ Turbulence II 12GB (3 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model F3-12800CL7T-12GBTDD

    Item#: N82E16820231380
    G.SKILL Trident+ Turbulence II 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model F3-12800CL7D-8GBTDD

I want to run multiple virtual machines, so more RAM is better. Planning to install 24GB total. It would be $660 (and you get 3 RAM coolers) for three X N82E16820231380 in comparison to $800 for two X N82E16820231381 (2 RAM coolers). Looks like you pay $140 more and get one cooler less for the same memory if you select N82E16820231381.
Am I correct? Is it the same memory? I don't see any difference in CAS or other specs.
    What is your opinion?

    Thank you,

    B.

Technically it is the same memory, but understand that bunching memory kits together does not necessarily mean they will work together. If you need 24GB for sure, it is recommended to get a 24GB kit. Two 381 kits or three 380 kits may or may not work together, which would be a chance you are taking. The difference in pricing is what you pay to avoid that chance.

    Thank you
