  • Blue Screen on New Build F3-16000CL9T-6GBTD

    I built a new system this week, after waiting nearly 7 months from when I purchased the parts. Initially I placed the memory in the wrong slots, which caused an error. Replaced memory in the correct slots and upgraded Bios from F1 to F6. Loaded Win 7-64 and started loading applications. Started to get blue screens just after Windows loaded up. Tweaked the CMOS to some other settings and still got the blue screens. Looked for a dump file and don?t see any to tell me where it?s crashing. I couldn?t even load Everest to test the memory. Loaded Windows 32-bit to see if the 64-bit was the problem and still get the blue screen. Every time I load new Windows, it updates the Radeon Driver and a few other fixes.

    Possible Problems:
    1.Corrupt Bios. I tried to reload F6 from Gigabyte?s website and the computer tells me it can?t load because it?s not a 64-bit application..???
    2.Video Card Driver with Win 7 ? 64bit (tried Win 7 ? 32 bit and same problem.
    3.Memory ? I took out all memory except one stick and still same problem even after switching sticks.
    4.Adjusted CMOS to tweak since the memory is 1.65V and MB Spec is 1.5V. Memory is on the approved list for MB, though. I adjusted timings, Profile?s, XMP, etc.

    Any help would be greatly appreciated!!! I?m on my 2nd day of trying to get this system stable.

      Were you BIOS flashing from Windows, or flashing through a usb or floppy via the BIOS?

      You can try a complete BIOS clear. Unplug the power supply from the wall outlet. Press the on/off button on the case a couple of times to discharge all residue power. Move the clear CMOS jumper from save to clear. Remove the CMOS battery. Wait five minutes or so. Move jumper back to save position and reinstall the CMOS battery.

      Plug the computer back in. Boot and enter BIOS. Load BIOS defaults and then select the XMP profile.

      Save and exit and immediately run Memtest 86+ version 4.10 for 6-8 hours and make sure you don't have any errors. If you passed Memtest you can reformat your hard drive and attempt to reinstall Windows. There shouldn't be any difference whether you're using the 32bit or 64bit versions of Windows.

        wevsspot,

        I (think) I initially flashed from the HD after copying the file from a thumb drive. Now that I have Win 7 32-bit loaded I can try to do it again and see what happens.

        I tried removing the battery (twice) to reset the CMOS and even tried pushing the button on the back of the MB, but no change. I'll try it again, this time for a longer period, load and run Memtest 86+, and let you know what happens.

          Sounds like a plan.

          Normally I don't recommend flashing your motherboard BIOS from the Windows environment, especially if you have a highly unstable system.

          If possible always flash the BIOS after a full CMOS clear and after you have reloaded the factory default BIOS settings. I also recommend flashing from a USB or floppy drive instead of within the Windows environment.

            I tested all 6B of memory with Memtest 86+ and no erros. It seems that there is some minor screen flickering before I get a blue screen (if windows boots straight up - sometimes it takes two boots to get into windows). I read on another post to try and boost voltages on memory and/or video card until stable. That post also ultimatey recommended sending the motherboard back. Looks like that may be the best alternative?? I could switch out the video card, but I don't want to have to pay extrta $$ when I bought a decent one to begin with.

            Any other thoughts?

              Did you try inputting better memory settings? AUTO doesn't always work well.

              Try enabling XMP, then raise QPI/VTT Voltage 1.600V, and see how that works.

              Another guaranteed setting is DDR3-1600 7-7-7-24 1.60V.

                I've tried a few things, such as: using "Profile1" under XMP; changing timings to 9-9-9-27, CMD 2; DRAM Voltage to 1.640V.

                XMP is still on Profile1. Raising QPI/VTT to 1.600V puts it in the RED....Are you sure you want it that high??

                I'll try the timings, but please get back to me on the QPI/VTT voltage..

                Still getting continuous BSODs. Updated the Video card BIOS too.

                  At DDR3 speeds I'd plug in a QPI/DRAM/VTT voltage of 1.30v and call it good.

                    Yes, most i7 920 D0 CPUs require QPI/VTT Voltage 1.60V to stabilize DDR3-2000. This is why you rarely see DDR3-2000+ triple channel kits since it puts A LOT of stress on the CPU. Also, an aftermarket CPU cooler is generally required for DDR3-2000 since it can overheat the CPU under full load.

                      I'm not even sure where I was going with this.................... maybe I was considering recommending that you downclock the memory frequency and tighten the timings.

                      I've done that (downclocked DRAM to 1800Mhz and tightened timings) and my performance (bandwidth and latency) are back on par with what they were when I was running DDR3 2000 speed. Plus I was able to lower QPI/VTT down from 1.50v to 1.30v
