  • Which memory to choose?

Hi everyone. I'm building a new system and am curious which RAM would be a better choice?

    G.Skill DDR3 1066 7-7-7-18

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820231308

    or

    G.Skill DDR3 1333 9-9-9-24

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820231311

I'm using an ASUS M4a88t-m motherboard and an AMD Phenom ii 945. There's only a $10 difference in price, so I was just curious if there would be a noticable difference in performance before I order.

    Thanks

    DDR3-1333 for sure! It's essentially a 25% upgrade for $10.

    Thank you

So in this case, the benefits from faster speed outweigh the benefits from the lower timings? Would this be true no matter what the system is used for? For example, it will not be used for gaming, but rather for running multiple Virtual Machines at once (Server 2008, & various Linux distros).

      Thanks

Most CPUs can utilize the bandwidth of DDR3-1333, so I suggest it. For your particular CPU, it is nearing max. I simply suggested because it is $10 extra, and if you really wanted to, you can probably run them at DDR3-1066 CL7 anyway.

VMs, you really want as much memory capacity as possible. Flat out, you won't notice a difference, but just know your system can send 2166MB/s more at a time if you have DDR3-1333.

        Thank you
