  • K9A2 Platinum with 4 or 8 Gigs F2-8500CL5D-4GBPK Unstable

Just got this F2-8500CL5D-4GBPK memory on Monday Started experiencing BSOD?s and program crashes. Before buying I checked G.Skill web site and my Motherboard is listed as compatible (K9A2 Platinum). Ran Memtest-86+ ver 2.01 from CD and got 2 errors on first set of DRAM in slot 0 and 1. Pulled first set and Put second in lot 2 and 3 and got 320 errors in one pass. Put old memory (F2-6400CL5D-4GBPQ) in and reset BIOS to all Auto and ran same tests no errors. Is the memory bad or do I have a setting messed up. Below is System specs and BIOS settings.

to run DDR2 1066, you'll need to add the nb voltage to 1.4-1.5v
and for Phenom platform, it seemed only support to DDR2 1066 for 2 dimms
and your another set memory is DDR2 800, not DDR2 1066

I will give that a try as soon as I have time. I actually have 4 sets of DIMMS 2 sets (8G) of the F2-6400CL5D-4GBPQ which I originally built my system with and they ran flawlessly for the past 10 months. I also have 2 sets (8G) of the F2-8500CL5D-4GBPK that I just purchased. I was hoping to get a performance boost for my video editing/rendering that I do. Do you know if there a better memory test program out there that works with the chipsets I have? I have tried a number of them and they either do not support even 4 gigs or the chipset I have. I appreciate the assistance and quick response.

Checked out settings with NB voltage @ 1.4 Two dimms work at 1066, no errors in Memtest-86+, Windows boots and seems to run OK for short time I have to try this. However latest AMD Overdrive reports memory running in single mode even though setting is unganged same as Memtest-86+ does. As per your response 4 DIMMS of F2-8500CL5D-4GBPK do not run correctly Windows starts but then promptly reboots. Don't know if 8 Gigs DDR2 800 better or 4Gigs of DDR2 1066 for video rendering. I wll try both later if I get the chance.

for testing memory, you can use memtest for windows
          you can find it here:
          http://hcidesign.com/memtest/download.html

you need to open few of them and fill in the amount you need to test

and for video rendering, large capacity may help more than high speed
          thanks
