  • dell dimension 4600

Hi, I have a dell dimension 4600 and I believe it's actually a 4600i but I don't know what the "i" means. Anyways I'm wanting more ram, the computer is really slow.

    Motherboard model: 0F4491
    Memory: 2 sticks of 256mb DDR SDRAM 400MHz (PC3200)
    CPU: Intel Pentium 4 2.80GHz

I'm looking to upgrade to at least 1 gig but hopefully 2 depending on price. I was wondering what ram would work on my system. I'm not the most tech savvy person but I'm learning.

    Thanks for the help

Also if I would get 2 x 512mb or 2 x 1GB could I still use my original 2 x 256mb in the other slots (because I have 4 slots) and bring my memory up to either 1.5 or 2.5 gigs without any problems?

    I would suggest the G.Skill F1-3200PHU2-1GBNT (2 sticks, 512MB each)

Or simply purchase the G.Skill F1-3200PHU1-1GBNT, which is a single 1GB stick. This would reduce memory controller stress.

You should be able to use the old sticks as well.

    Thank you
