  • 4x F3-12800CL9-4GBNQ @ MSI 790FX - GD70

    Hey there,

    Unfortunately I've some problems with my 8GB F3-12800CL9-4GBNQ (4x 2GB).

    My hardware:
    MSI 790FX-GD70
AMD Phenom II X4 955 BE

Not at every startup, but quite often I get at least one BSOD (0x0000001A or 0x0000004E)
It's quite crazy cause it's not always like that. sometimes I can boot an use the PC without problems.
The worst case till now was to get 6 BSOD, always after rebooting
the BSODs appear (when theey appear) always in the first few minutes in windows (sometimes even before i can enter my password)

So I'd like to ask you for the settings (RAM timings, voltages) I should use to (hopefully) get the system stable?

at the moment I've just 2 sticks inserted into the MoBo, to try if it's stable in this config (timings, voltages @auto)

Hope you can help me with my problem.

PS: until now, the RAM (all 4 modules) was running @ 1333MHz and the timings 9-9-9-24 (other timings @auto)

    best regards,
    smuRf

    Cell Menu

    DRAM Frequency - 1600

AMD Cool n Quiet - Disabled

    DRAM Voltage - 1.70V
    NB Voltage - 1.20V (1.40V with 8GB)
    HT Link Voltage - 1.30V

    DRAM Timing Mode - Both
    tCL - 9
    TRCD - 9
    tRP - 9
    tRAS - 24

    For both, top and bottom.

Let me know how that goes. This memory package is for Intel platforms, but some AMD platforms have no issues.

    Thank you

first of all... thanks for quick reply.
i will try to use this settings in the event and let you know how it was working.

      just one question left:

      NB Voltage - 1.20V (1.40V with 8GB)
do you mean the CPU-NB VDD Voltage with that or do you really mean the NB Voltage?

      regards,
      smuRf

I really mean NB Voltage. =)

I've tried your suggested settings (for the moment) with 2x2GB memory sticks.
until now I haven't had any BSOD and the system in general is running much better now.

I'll test the system till weekend, if it's running fine, I'll give 8GB a chance to run :P

thanks so far for your help. I'll let you know, how it goes then with 8GB RAM

          greets,

            hey,

unfortunately I got a BSOD again (with 8GB of RAM aka 4 sticks).
4GB an 2 sticks worked quite good with your proposed settings.

any idea, if i can try something else?

            regards,
            smuRf

try to increase HT Link Voltage to 1.4-1.5v, it may help the stabilty while running with 4 sticks

I'll give that a try, thanks.

no BSOD since 3 days... seems that 1.5V HT Link Voltage does it's job well
                  thanks so far!

                    ohhh no

                    day 4 and again 0x0000001A...
changed the command rate to 2T, tRAs to 25 and tRc to 40 (these are the values from the SPD profiel for 800MHz). unfortunately again BSOD
                    any other suggestions?

                    best regards.

would you like to try to downgrade the frequency a little ?

This is, what i'm trying at the moment.
I also flashed my bios to the latest beta yesterday, turned off spread spectrum and switched the ram clock to 1333MHz.
                        Timings r still stock (9-9-9-24, CR 1T)
                        we'll see how's that running.
as i posted before 4GB (2sticks) i could get running stable with the settings you mentioned.

                        Regards

ok, again bluescreens with with 1333MHz.

do you have any idea, if theres something left I could try?

you still got BSOD with 2 sticks running DDR3 1333 9-9-9-24?
are the 2 pairs in the same situation?
please try to set tRFC to 72 or 74 to see if it works
                            thanks

no, 2 sticks are running fine, no matter which 2 sticks of the 4 i've here and no matter in which slots (1+2 or 3+4) i put them. there aren't any problems with 2 sticks (even @ 1600MHz) when i use the settings you proposed on page 1 of this thread.

But I get BSOD if i use all 4 sticks, no matter if i run them @1333MHz or @1600MHz.
