  • Intel Matrix Driver

I've tried to install this in the past, (POST installation of windows) but it's never worked, No idea why. I have an ICH9R chipset ( http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/Products/...me=GA-EP35-DS4 )

I've not had a floppy drive for as long as I can remember. Is it possible to feed it the drivers at the F6 prompt from a USB stick?

I'm guessing the purpose of this AHCI support instead of the M$ drivers?

Two methods for this. For an in place existing install you can do some registry tweaks to enable AHCI support. Right after the reboot, you go into the BIOS and set to AHCI or native mode and Windows will make the switch over. That I haven't tried myself but people have had some success with it, should be able to Google the process.

Second method for a new install is to slipstream a Windows install disk. The F6 and driver disk doesn't always work, especially on some laptops. You will need to slipstream the ICH9R drivers into an image and burn it onto blank media. Installing from the slipstreamed disk will by default put the AHCI drivers into the install process. An easy way to slipstream is to use nLite. Nice program that will do the work for you. I have used it with success. There are two sections for drivers, one for OEM which are the ones used during the initial install. Then the plug'n'play drivers, which will be the regular ones you download for Windows. The OEM drivers will detect the hard drive and get you past the first install stage. The plug'n'play is for when setup does its first reboot and continues on. Also Vista and Windows 7 have an updated driver set and may or may not contain some AHCI drivers.
