  • Question on your bios configuration section.

You wrote in your bios configuration for my ram/mb:

    F3-16000CL9D-4GBTD + Gigabyte P55-UD3R BIOS settings
These settings will work for other DDR3-2000 memory packages as well.

    Advanced CPU Features:
    CPU Clock Ratio ................................ [16x]
Intel(R) Turbo Boost Tech .................. [Disabled]
    CPU Cores Enabled ............................ [All]
    CPU Multi Threading .......................... [Enabled]
    C3/C6/C7 State Support ................... [Auto]
CPU Enhanced Halt (C1E) ................... [Auto]
    C3/C6/C7 State Support .................... [Auto]
    CPU Thermal Monitor ......................... [Auto]
    CPU EIST Function ............................ [Disabled]
    Virtualization Technology ................... [Disabled]
    Bi-Directional PROCHOT ..................... [Auto]

My question is why do you have that stuff disabled? Are those not beneficial say with an i5 system? Just trying to understand why you would recommend to disable them.

EIST will slow your CPU at idle, when you immediately come back up to speed it can cause glitches and possibly BSODs, for the juice you save it is negligible, and if the MC is in the CPU it makes it even worse

C1E is another feature that saves juice

Both can limit OCing and decrease overall performance

Turbo boost, to me, is a yes/no with some rigs it works well, with others it's a definite detriment.

Virtualization Technology is another maybe yes/maybe no

All are things integrated into the chipsets and how well they actually work to a large degree is how well they are integrated into the BIOS........They have long been more or less automatically disabled by high end users and gamers as detrimental to systems where OCing is dominant and/or where high end RAM is used and/or non-JEDEC standard RAM as, in part, the processes, in relation to RAM are written to JEDEC standards.

Very brief and as non-tech as possible, hope it helps

GSkill tech may have more specific and other reasons, for me I've been building for high end business, power users and gamers for some time now and dont use the first two ever and very seldon on the other two.

Right, and seldom ever use the other 2
