  • DDR4 RipJaws V 3200, problems with Asrock Z170M Extrem4?

    Hi all,
I have bought the following components:

    - Asrock Z170M Extreme4, Intel I7 6700 (non-k), 2 x 8 Gb DDR4 G.Skill RipJaws V 3200 (black), Seasonic G550 Gold.
    Win 10 Pro 64.

Sometimes I have some blue-Windows screen with programs like 3dmark(11), Firefox etc., so I tried test the system with OCCT Test, configuring it to use large amount of memory and all cores.

In 42-50 sg aprox, the test warning me about a problem/error with a CPU core, and stop the test.
Testing Prime95 reports some errors too.
AIDA64 informs that the speed and frequency of DDR4 is 3200 MHz, 16-16-38..all ok.
    Memtest86+ reports 36 errors in 10 minutes.

In the BIOS the memory is set to XMP2 Profile 1.

I have the last UEFI (1.30)

I tried some changes: - go into UEFI and modify manually the settings:
    - DDR4 from 3200 to 2800 and the other parameter to 100 - memory clock? ( 100, 133 and auto are the available options. If I select 100 I only can set frequency up to 2800. For 3000+ setting I need set this parameter to 133)). Latencies from 16-18-18-38 to 15-15-15-35. DDRAM voltaje from 1.35 to 1.20

With this configuration memtest86 not report any error in 7 hours.
No errors with OCCT and Prime95

So I think the memory is faulty...what do you think?

That motherboard and CPU is certified for DDR4-2666. Try manual settings or enable XMP but reduce frequency and see how that works.

The limitation is the CPU or the motherboard? This motherboard with other CPU could reach 3200?
I cant find this limitations in the specs :-(

Manually I set 2800 15-15-15-35 , 1.2V and I think the system is stable...but it is a waste of money to have faster memory that I can set.

Could I reach 3200 changing modules or imposible?

Edit: Looking for the motherboard documentation, said that this board can reach DDR4 3466+...the problem is the memory or CPU??

Motherboard, it may need more updates until it can fully support DDR4-2666+

It is not a waste of money because you can lower timings and have better performance. With RAM, you pay for chip quality, so in general higher price means you got a better chip.

You can reach DDR4-3200 by using motherboard with more mature BIOS. Motherboard chip set may be capable of 3466, but BIOS is not.

I'm looking at almost the same build...did you ever sort this out?

It looks like Asrock has a list of compatible modules, is yours listed?
