  • My first DIY...

So I'm working on planning out my first DIY & was impressed with not only the positive feedback concerning the G.skill RAM products, but the very spirited & quite sincere responses to the negative.

I'm sold & am happy to be a customer.

This is the build I've mustered at this point ...

PROCESSOR: Intel Core i5-2500K Sandy Bridge 3.3GHz [x]
    MB: ASUS P8Z68-V/GEN3 LGA [x]
VCARD: EVGA SuperClocked 01G-P3-1563-AR GeForce GTX 560 Ti [x]
PS: OCZ ModXStream Pro 600W Modular High Performance Power Supply[x]
COOLING: ZALMAN CNPS9900MAX-B 135mm Long life bearing CPU Cooler Blue LED [x]
CASE: Rosewill CHALLENGER Black Gaming ATX Mid Tower Computer Case [x]
    HD: HITACHI HDS721050CLA362 (0F10381) 500GB [x]
    OS: Microsoft Windows 7 Home SP1 64-bit - OEM [x]
DRIVE: ASUS 24X DVD Burner [x]
I'm looking to obviously finish it with some RAM. 16 would be ideal.

Based on my shopping list, what would be my best choice?

Most any of the 16GB (4x4) sets would work well, I'd suggest 1866 or better w/ the 2500K as guessing you'll be looking for high performance. While there's many might look at the F3-17000CL9Q-16GBSR or the F3-17000CL9Q-16GBZH, both sets are at $160 at NewEgg, and are 2133 with CL9, so they are fast and are versatile as far as OCing or even downclocking and tighter timings for a slight performance boost over stock

      Thanks for the fast response.

I looked at both & remember peeking at the F3-17000CL9Q-16GBZH previously, but figured it wouldn't be a good set due to...

Quad channel memory designed for LGA2011 Intel Core-i7 processors and X79 platforms.
      My build is neither.

Though, you're right. I am hoping for the highest performance possible with what I have.

Would F3-17000CL9Q-16GBSR be the better option for me then?

Either will work, while the Z series is designed for quad channel X79 it also carries in profile #2 a backward compatible XMP 1.2 setup for the older mobos (in addition to the XMP 1.3 profile for X79)...as to the Snipers, I love em and use them all the time from 1333 - 2133, am hoping they bring them out w/ 8GB sticks in higher end sets

Fantastic. Thanks again for the feedback.

I guess I'll be in touch with you all once I get these boys & get a crash course/clue about OCing.

Ok, unfortunately I had to do a bit of changes in my list & have to downgrade to 8 on the RAM for the time being.

              The board/processor (i-5 2500k/ASUS P8Z68-V/GEN3 LGA) remains the same.

With that said, what's the recommended/best 8g I can get?

As always, ty for your suggestions.

For 8GB, I'd look at these:

                http://www.newegg.com/Product/Productcompare.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=100007611%2050008 476%20600006069%20600006050&IsNodeId=1&bop=And&Com pareItemList=147|20-231-476^20-231-476-TS%2C20-231-518^20-231-518-TS%2C20-231-455^20-231-455-TS

Again the 2133 sets are at CL9....there are CL11/2133 sets available also which run a little less, but if you give thought to them, then I'd suggest the 1866 set here, it is CL9 and should run 2133 at CL10 and is less than the CL11 2133 duos.

You must first designate which items to compare by clicking on the appropriate check box in the product listing.
